Ellen Zeifer practices in the areas of business and intellectual property law with a special interest in art law and domestic and international licensing. She counsels start-ups and small businesses on day-to-day matters including corporate issues, structuring and negotiating employment agreements, consulting and confidentiality agreements, export-import matters and counsels on copyright, trademark, design and publishing matters.
In the art area, she focuses on purchase and sale agreements for art and antiquities, art exhibition agreements, consignment agreements, vendor warranties and loan agreements. She has broad experience in representing museums and counseling on provenance issues.
In the transactional energy area, she advises on the preparation of such documents as energy services and power purchase agreements. She provides services relating to energy conservation and solar development projects. She has co-authored published articles on topics such as due diligence and cloud services agreements.
In the construction area she has experience in the preparation of agreements for the build-out and fixturing of retail stores, as well as in multi-family renovation, point work, waterproofing and related matters.
Ms. Zeifer is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the New York City Bar Association, where she has served on the Art Law Committee, the Committee on Trademarks and Unfair Competition and the Monday Night Lawprogram, advising on small business, employment, credit, and family law matters.
Prior to starting the firm in May, 2012, Ms. Zeifer practiced law for 30 years, first as an associate at White & Case in the litigation and intellectual property departments and then as a sole practitioner. She served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association on cases involving intellectual property for 12 years. She is admitted to practice in the New York State Supreme Court and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Ms. Zeifer has served on two non-profit boards. She was the chair of the board of the Center for Book Arts from 2010 through June, 2013 and also served as a director since 2006. The Center for Book Arts is an organization located in New York City that offers educational and literary book arts programs, classes in letterpress printing, book binding and related topics, and exhibitions related to the book arts field. Ms. Zeifer has also served as a director and was president of the Co-op Board of 322 Central Park West in New York City.
Ms. Zeifer is a cum laude graduate of Bryn Mawr College, and received an M.A. from New York University School of Education in Art Education. She graduated cum laude from Brooklyn Law School and received an LL.M. in Trade Regulation from New York University School of Law.
